New Amazon FBA Requirement — Now in Effect

Amazon Now Requires an FNSKU on Every FBA Unit. Automate It.

As of March 31, 2026, Amazon ended stickerless commingled inventory. If you’re a reseller not enrolled in Brand Registry, every unit you send to FBA needs its own Amazon FNSKU barcode — even when the product already has a manufacturer barcode. Hand-labeling doesn’t scale. Auto Labe builds the FNSKU labeling machine that does it for you.

What the FNSKU Mandate Means for Your Line

Amazon’s rule change affects sellers differently depending on how you’re set up.

  • Resellers & wholesale sellers (not Brand Registered): You must now apply an Amazon FNSKU barcode to every unit before it ships to FBA. The manufacturer’s UPC on the package is no longer enough on its own.
  • Brand owners in Brand Registry: You can generally keep using manufacturer barcodes with virtual tracking — except any product with no manufacturer barcode still needs an FNSKU.
  • Everyone: The FNSKU label has to be scannable, has to cover any conflicting barcode, and has to be placed cleanly. Receiving scanners are unforgiving.

Why “We’ll Just Sticker Them Ourselves” Stops Working Fast

Manual FNSKU labeling looks cheap until you run the numbers at volume.

  • Amazon’s “Unplanned Prep” fee. Send unlabeled units and Amazon labels them for you — then bills a per-unit prep fee. Across thousands of units, that’s margin gone.
  • Rejected shipments. Mis-placed or unscannable labels get flagged at receiving, delaying your inventory from going sellable.
  • Labor that doesn’t scale. Every spike in volume means more hands peeling and sticking labels — and more human error on placement and SKU mix-ups.

Why Print & Apply Beats Pre-Printed Labels for FNSKU

Every FNSKU is unique to your SKU, so pre-ordering printed rolls is rigid and wasteful. Print & apply generates each barcode on demand from your label data and applies it immediately — so you can:

  • Switch SKUs in seconds from the touchscreen, with no new label order
  • Print exactly what you need, when you need it — no obsolete label inventory
  • Keep placement consistent so every unit scans the first time
  • Add a vision/scanner option to catch a bad label before it ships
